For Reliance Industries, the idea of family appears to extend far beyond the Ambanis.
In its 45-minute documentary, ‘Parvah Hai Toh Parivar Hai’, the conglomerate turns its founding philosophy of ‘We Care’ into a story about the people, relationships and values that have shaped the institution since its beginnings.
The film traces that idea back to founder Dhirubhai Ambani, and the belief that instead of simply relying on family, the ambition was to find the best people and make them part of one. Today, that idea of family spans more than 4.19 lakh employees across Reliance’s businesses in retail, telecommunications, media and entertainment, oil to chemicals, and oil to gas.
At the centre of the documentary are Mukesh and Nita Ambani, along with Akash, Isha and Anant Ambani, who reflect on the philosophy that connects the founding family with the wider Reliance organisation.
The documentary also positions that philosophy alongside Reliance’s larger ambitions. As Mukesh Ambani puts it, if India is to be among the top countries in the world, Reliance too has to continue being among the top companies globally.
Originally created for Reliance employees and their families, ‘Parvah Hai Toh Parivar Hai’ eventually grew into a story the company chose to share more widely.
Produced by Guneet Monga and Achin Jain’s Sikhya Entertainment Productions and directed by Disha Rindan, the documentary brings together a film-led approach to corporate storytelling with music composed by Shankar Mahadevan, Siddharth Mahadevan and Souumil, and lyrics by Prasoon Joshi.
More than a conventional corporate film, ‘Parvah Hai Toh Parivar Hai’ uses the idea of family as the thread running through Reliance’s story — from its founding philosophy to the people and businesses that now make up the group.
