The short-form entertainment platform is moving its live-action productions beyond Indian locations, while experimenting with AI-led production and expanding its microdrama format ahead of a potential IPO. Kuku TV is taking its microdrama format beyond India, with the short-form entertainment platform shooting recent productions in Paris, Barcelona and Dubai as it looks to broaden the visual and geographic scope of its live-action storytelling.

The platform has filmed Love Beneath Paris Skies in Paris, Found Real Love in Barcelona and The Ultimate Boss in Dubai. The international locations are being incorporated into the stories rather than being used simply as visual backdrops, giving Kuku TV another way to expand the canvas of its short-form format. For a category traditionally associated with compact production teams, shorter schedules and tightly controlled sets, the move represents an attempt to make microdramas feel larger without losing the pace and accessibility that define the format.

Sachin Singh, head of Kuku TV, said, “For us, delivering a superior storytelling experience is central to everything we do. We have consistently pushed the possibilities of the format, including taking our live-action productions to global locations to bring new settings and visual experiences to audiences.” He added that AI is creating further opportunities for the company to experiment with immersive content and production at scale. “Ultimately, it is about taking audiences to new worlds while staying true to what each plot demands,” Singh said.

AI enters the production equation

The push beyond Indian locations comes alongside Kuku TV’s wider experimentation with artificial intelligence across content creation. The technology is also being used to shorten script development cycles, giving the platform greater scope to experiment with formats and stories. For Kuku, the combination of international locations and AI-led production points to a broader attempt to expand what can be achieved within short-form entertainment without relying entirely on traditional production models.

Expansion continues ahead of IPO

The content push comes as Bengaluru-based Kuku Technologies, which operates Kuku FM, Kuku TV and learning platform Guru, progresses with its public-market plans. The company has received approval from SEBI for its confidential IPO filing, following its decision to use the confidential filing route in June. Reports had earlier pegged the proposed fundraise at around ₹2,500–3,500 crore and a potential valuation of approximately ₹15,000 crore, although the final structure and size remain subject to subsequent filings.

Kuku has 18 months from regulatory approval to bring the IPO to market. The process is expected to involve an updated draft red herring prospectus followed by the formal red herring prospectus, with the eventual offer potentially comprising a fresh issue and an offer for sale.

MS Dhoni is an investor in Kuku Technologies and serves as the company’s brand ambassador. The company has also expanded its microdrama proposition beyond scripted fiction. In August, Kuku TV launched Sabse Bada Dramebaaz, an acting reality series created around its vertical microdrama format. Co-presented with Meesho and powered by Tinder, the 50-episode series features episodes of around two minutes each.

With global shoots, AI-assisted production and new formats entering its content mix, Kuku TV is attempting to take microdramas beyond their traditional production constraints while building a larger entertainment business around the format.
